Louise – Is this the Best Tasting Fried Chicken in Bacolod?

ilovepork, the third member of the Bacolod Food Hunters informed us of a rumor that a restaurant serves the best chicken in Bacolod. Of course, we were very interested and we were on that hot lead in a flash!

It was after seven when the Bacolod Food Hunters descended on Louise restaurant in Lacson street. We had brought Smile’s special friend iGal as a guest.

The first thing we noticed was the very posh sign outside. Hmm, this looks very appealing and enticing to the eye.

We entered and at once I was struck by the elegant decor of the restaurant. It was a very grand atmosphere and it made me feel like royalty. The lighting was nice and muted and radiated a golden warmth around the room.

The First Part of the restaurant had these white cast-iron garden lawn sets which actually looked very good indoors.

The inside tables were even more elegant. I didn’t quite like the glasses because they were red and resembled VASES. It made me think that the water tasted like flowers.  It’s just me.  The others liked the glasses

We were shown to our table. It was very nice and cozy. Behind us are sofas facing a flat screen TV where guests can watch TV and relax.

After waiting a bit, the food arrived. We had chicken skin as an appetizer. I was pleased at the quality of the chicken skin. It was thick, crunchy and perfectly cooked without the slightest bit of bitterness that comes from burnt, overfried food. It was definitely classier and had more quality than the typical low grade chicken skin that is served in beer joints.

We also ordered Beef Salpicao. For me and Smile we found it to be HORRIBLE. The portion was very small and the beef was tough, rubbery and flavorless. I guess that was the reason why they put fried garlic on top of it to give it flavor. However Lisabel, the girlfriend of Ilovepork says that she really likes their salpicao. Okay.

Finally the chicken arrived. Ilovepork was raving about how good the chicken was and how it was just like Max’s chicken but only a bit better. I found it hard to agree with him. I have eaten chicken like this in Manila and this chicken tasted the same as the others. Still, for Bacolod standards it was very good albeit a bit pricy. 150 pesosfor half a chicken!

After that quite satisfying meal we got the bill. It was a present surprise as the bill came to us in this cute little treasure box.

If ever you have guests and you want to take then to a “posh” restaurant, you can’t go wrong with Louise. Dining there was quite a fun experience and the food was ok.

I would rate it

Ambiance : 9/10 for the novelty factor of the bill box and the decor.

Food: 6/10 because of the horrible salpicao. I am sure Ilove pork enjoyed the chicken and would give a higher score.

Service: 8/10 but only because we were the only diners there and the drinking water served to us was kinda lukewarm and not chilled.

All in all, Louise’s is a nice pleasant restaurant to dine at. The decor makes for interesting conversation pieces and the atmosphere is sure to impress and relax your guests.

  1. Guys, you should be at least careful with what you say here. You can be in deep trouble if people find some of your comments as offensive to their food and establishments. You should just praise and admire, but don’t criticize.

About the beef salpicao, I actually loved it when I went there last month. I’m not a beef salpicao lover at all, but that salpicao at Louise actually caught my buds! And for the chicken, it never fails. I still find it very good! The best in Bacolod. :)

  2. This is a food blog and the writers just post their own honest and objective assessments of the food served in the establishments.

If only every food we eat would send us to gastronomic heaven… that would be a perfect world. But sadly, that is not so and there will be food that will not meet our namit-ness standards.

  3. Hi guys keep up the good work.

I just want to say that criticism is a good thing. It gives establishments the opportunity to improve. Thats how the food industry survives. We feed on their food and they feed on our feedback. Get it?

Thanks guys for being honest. I can almost taste the food all the way here in NYC.

P.S. Try the Baby Back Ribs at Lord Byron’s. Located in Brgy. Montevista (Homesite) just right beside the tennis court. Tell me what you think.

  4. Geee THanks FOr this Information. I’ll try Louise coz im planning to take my bf somewhere for our 2nd year anniversary. I saw this place but never went inside. And I’m really thankful i saw this blog. I’m not a risk taker when it comes to food and paying a big amount for it. I don’t want to get disappointed ♥ I love you guys!!

  5. haha, that was a funny comment, only say admire and do not criticize. gads, where do you think we are? in sarah palin’s alaska? this is already the 21st century and freedom of the press has been around for several centuries, my gosh. anyways, that person who said that its good that we have an honest objective review of food and restaurants is correct. like i wanna be warned about spending my money. in fact, when someone says the food here is bad, MY CURIOSITY IS SO perked up because i wanna know why its bad, and maybe – you know taste is relative – whats good to you may be lousy to me and vise versa – so, and yes, constructive criticism is good. it can help a restaurateur oir a chef improve himself. putting up a busines, and inviting the public to invest their money on your restaurant and your food, is always a risky proposition. if you have a lousy restaurant and lousy food, mygosh, pls, dont impose yourself on my taste buds, haha! gads, if you have a restaurant in new york and new york times food critic frank bruni comes in and tastes your food, it better be good, otherwise, be prepared to be demolished, in print media!

  6. really late in reading this blog.i’ve always been proud of bacolod’s restaurants.the best in the philippines!and they’re not overpriced and overhyped like hose in manila and cebu. i haven’t tried louise but this little place really intrigues me.i’ve always doubts goin there coz it might be too expensive for maybe “ordinary food”.anyway, thanks for this review, i already have an idea
